Implementing 5G Observability Solutions

Matellio assisted HPE CMS Network Domain implementation of 5G Observability – Cloud-Native applications to capture service data to facilitate value creation for customers and partners implementing 5G solutions.

01

The Challenge

In the Client’s CMS 5G infrastructure, Observability is a very crucial necessity to enable a fully mobile and connected society. Observability of the system in production is a requirement when designing complex systems. Monitoring the system in production is crucial to the ongoing operation of the system. Support new services requiring network capabilities for operator services and 3rd parties. Operate across a variety of communication scenarios.

02

The Solution

Matellio provided an integrated team of engineers to the client to focus on developing Metrics observability, logging and tracing the functions as executed.

Metrics were collected related to a variety of resource utilization, traffic rates, errors and service durations are collected, measured and summarized at different intervals. Logging then is used by NF developers to show states within a NF microservice. These logs are a primary source for further debug level logs to allow for further, easier searching and analysis for debuggingTracing further tracks the process to aid in optimizing latency, problems and performance bottlenecks.

03

The Outcome

Tracing tracks specific points in the execution of the service supported by the NF micro services making all the performance data available to an API in the framework (based on Jaeger) and available on an ad-hoc basis for troubleshooting and performance analysis of the service.

This implementation allowed the client to implement the most current tools in a way the support fast and responsive analysis of the system performance quickly at a detailed  root-level cause.
